My tribute to the late great Eddie Van Halen. Wow what a letdown. I just can't play anywhere near that level to do justice to the man's guitar wizardry. I did try some of the "tapping" techniques he pioneered on here, and if Eddie was looking down on my pathetic attempts I'm sure he had a good laugh. I'd be honored if my ineptitude gave him a chuckle, but kinda frustrating when you aren't capable enough to put together a sincere and heartfelt tribute even half worthy to honor the intended recipient. I will say I am 95% certain that I am a better "hard rock" guitarist than Ruth Bader Ginsburg. But that brings up a question- if this is a tribute to Eddie Van Halen, how did Notorious RGB get in there? This song actually appears to be a confrontation with a traditional Judeo-Christian type god, taking them to task for killing the wrong mortals, while letting the ones we can nearly all agree we'd prefer bit the dust get off scott free (for the time being- keeping fingers crossed for the existence of actual all torture, all of the time, eternal afterlife for scumbags who hopefully get fucked in their Karmic ass a little harder than the rest of us. Here's hopin'!) Ok. Let's say God and the Devil do exist- Is it really God's job to keep Satan in line? Theologists would suggest such a belief reflects a misunderstanding of basic religious doctrine, but I'm just sayin'.

Plenty more worth your smiting, the last time I checked. And now Eddie's gone. Who's it gonna be next? We all get it. We all know that it sucks. We all reach our limit. Everybody's biting the dust. You'll always have a steady stream of fatalities flowing, but do us a favor man and slow down your roll. Cuz every toss of the dice can't keep coming up snake-eyes. If you play by your rules, that's just not how it goes. Of the 38 million who lay sick in their beds. Out of all of the carnage, you're giving that guy a pass? Don't pretend you don't know when we ask for a break, we want a change in the tone, we don't mean our leg. So how about you lay off all the musicians, and turn the heat up on some of them politicians? Instead of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Eddie Van Halen- How bout putting the squeeze on the forces of Satan? Ain't that your job? I think it's more like 40 million now man, but who's counting?

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
